Because of the war, my wife Larisa and I had to move from Donetsk to Zaporozhe, where we were given a room to live in by a local church. We have been here for several months already, and by God’s grace we have been able to continue our ministry. I have been able to visit eight churches these past two months, where I did presentations on the books we distribute. It is interesting to see the growing interest for good books. People in the churches are trying to find the answers on many questions they have, and the good selection of books we have is a real blessing to many.

These days, many church people are rethinking many issues in their lives, and some people really want in-depth study. That growth of interest led me to the point where I suggested that they have book studies in their homes. Over the last three months, six home study groups have been started. Most of the groups are studying the book Respectable Sins written by Jerry Bridges. For many people, reading that book is an eye opening experience. It is a clear message to the church not to tolerate too many so-called “respectable” sins, the outcomes of which are terrible.

Now we are in the middle of a big project. The actuality of Jonathan Edwards’s sermon “Sinners in the Hands of An Angry God” is such as it has never been before. That sermon is not for easy and enjoyable reading. It is straight to the point – if you have no peace with God you will go to hell. It is not a message which will be liked by today’s people. It is far away from the “consumers” approach of modern preachers, when they avoid preaching on the issues like hell and God’s punishment towards sin and sinners. We found that sermon to be the one needed for the church in Ukraine. After discussing this sermon with some ministers, we developed a plan where the church members will receive a free copy of the sermon, read and study it, and share the sermon with at least one non-Christian friend of theirs. We started a distribution of the sermon a couple of weeks ago, and we are receiving more and more orders for this sermon.

Together with the Prison Ministry staff, I visit various prisons in Zaporozhe. There are groups of confessing Christians there, so we visit with them and conduct the services there. I give the books to them as well.

There are tens of thousands of the refugees from Donetsk and Lugansk regions in our area. Four times a week, together with my wife Larisa, we serve in one the centers for the refugees where people come in order to receive some food and medications. I talk to many people there, most of them are not Christians, so for them this is their first ever contact with Christians and the church. They look for the answers too, and we try to give them Scriptural answers. They are given the literature as well. The children among them greatly appreciate the Children’s Bible given to them.

Again and again, I look at all that has happened to Ukraine as a great opportunity to share the Gospel with many people whom we would never have had a chance to approach, were it not for the war. Only God knows the results of the work we do with the books. It is our prayer the Lord will use us as His instruments to the salvation of some.
