Are You Willing to Help?

It is very moving to observe the faith in these Gypsy people and their concern for a young family that lived in their community.
There was not only a great need for food, due to unemployment, but also for the sad situation of Angela Cvaci, who had just lost her husband to cancer and was left with two children and expecting with a third child. Come Over and Help sent aid to this village through our Winter Help Program. It is the grace of God that inclined many hearts in North America for this program. Come Over and Help is very thankful for this liberal support and we thank God from whom all blessings flow.
The Gypsies currently have a place where they meet for worship services with a Gypsy pastor who serves them. There are many indications of spiritual growth, and they truly appreciate the help they receive from Come Over and Help.
What happened to Angela Covaci and her children? Come Over and Help was informed that she had to leave the baby behind in a Christian orphanage because she could not afford to take care of all three children. What could Come Over and Help do in this situation? Could we, with the help of Iona Mabda, reunite this baby with its mother and her two other children? We tried but are sad to inform you that we were not successful. The Romanian law states that once a parent leaves a child and signs the papers they lose custody of the child. Also, if a child has not been visited by either parent for a period of six months, they automatically lose custody of their child to the state. It saddened us to receive the news that this child had already been adopted in another family.
There are still many Gypsies who continually drift from village to village in their horse drawn wagons as they have done for generations. They are not trusted and many are not recognized as Romanian citizens. They live off the land and are known for their begging and stealing and this causes difficulties for those that try to create a future for their families. Some churches have implemented programs to help integrate these people into the Romanian society.
What can Come Over and Help provide? In the case of this Gypsy Village, we have implemented a Poor Family program to assist these people all year round. With the guidance of their pastor and our representative we hope to introduce them to different agricultural programs and/or teach them a trade so that they can provide for their families. We need your help and the Lords blessing. .
